If you’re running a subscription service then enticing new subscribers with an introductory free period may seem like a good idea. But getting quality is just as important as quantity! We would recommend that you offer a reduced cost initial period to your subscription model. This will allow you to qualify your customers when the subscription is setup, which means you can be sure that these customers have the ability to pay when renewal time comes.
In our experience this is a better model than offering a free period to customers. If no payment is taken at sign-up then your service may be giving away free access to users that have no ability to pay at the end of the free period. So for example if your service costs five dollars per week, it is much better to offer the first week at a nominal, discounted price, perhaps for one dollar. As your subscribers are qualified to pay when they sign up your renewals will be much more successful than if you give the first week away free.
